A Mostly Typical Monday

I've been meaning to write something that would give you an idea what a typical day is like for me, but I couldn't decide what a typical day was. Today looked like it would be fairly normal, so I decided to go for it.

7:30ish - I wake up and get dressed.
8:00 - Breakfast time. I have a bagel and coffee, which is apparently a very American thing. I have had several people comment or ask me what I'm eating when I have a bagel. They are available in stores here, but are less common than at home.
8:15 - Morning quiet time in my room.
9:10 - Refocus. Every morning at this time everyone gathers in the conference room for devotions before the work day starts.
9:30 - On Mondays, I do admin for ELCO, the English language program. So I grab a cup of tea and head down to the basement, where the ELCO office and classrooms are.
I fire up a computer and check my email. Andrew Harwood, the head of ELCO, has a list of things for me to do. It varies every week. Today, I'm inputting attendance records from the last two months into the official spread sheets.
11:00 - Tea break. I've already had tea this morning, so I just use the time to chat.
11:15 - Back to work. Andrew has recently purchased several new dictionaries for ELCO and I've been covering them in clear contact paper. He has one more for me to do today. A couple weeks ago, he purchased twenty Bibles in simple English for use in the classroom, which I also covered in contact paper.
Andrew also has several books for me to add to the ELCO library catalogue, which I created a couple months ago.
I add a new folder to the filing cabinet, which Andrew had me reorganize and re-label a few weeks ago.
12:30 - Lunchtime! Our wonderful cook, Miguel, has made spaghetti with meat sauce and garlic bread. After lunch, I sit in the lounge to read and relax.
2:00 - Every Monday afternoon, I take minutes at the ELCO staff meeting.
3:55 - Meeting finally ends. (Thank goodness!) I take a short break to get a drink and stretch my legs.
4:10 - I play around in Microsoft Word with a chart explaining verb tenses, enlarging it and making it clearer.
4:30 - Andrew gives me stack of session evaluations from the students for me to type up and consolidate the responses. I do a lot of this for the Training Team as well.
5:30 - Working day is done. I head upstairs to make supper. Miguel only cooks one hot meal a day. For the other meal, you can either have leftovers, sandwiches, or prepare your own food. I make tuna noodles.
6:30 - I get together with a group of friends to watch the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special. I am a huge fan of the popular British TV show Doctor Who and have been eagerly anticipating this episode.
10:00 - Time to get my PJs on and fool around on my laptop before bed.
11:00 - Lights out. My day is done.

So that's my life, more or less. It's not very exciting to talk about and some of the stuff I do sounds trivial, but I enjoy it. I like knowing that the things I do make other people's jobs easier. When an ELCO teacher needs a particular document, they will be able to find it faster because the files are clearly labelled. The Bibles and dictionaries will last longer with the protection of contact paper. Teachers will be able to improve their classes because of the evaluation responses I've organized for them. It's not glamorous, but I love it.
